Writing Progress

From the start of the semester to the end, I have learned the value of outlining and how that can help me synthesize my papers better by organizing my thoughts. Before starting this course, I would often write my draft with nothing more than an idea and hope for the best. However, through the use of an outline I not only have my main thesis down on the page, but the evidence that I want to use and analyze to support my thesis. For me, the outlining process has allowed me to write an effective rough draft and final paper more easily.

With an effective outline and easy-to-write draft, I have been able to focus more on syntax and grammar. Throughout the course, I have been able to focus on seamlessly integrating quotes into my paper so they seem that they belong. When I integrate quotes into my papers, I work to blend my own writing in with the quote so that it reads like a regular sentence in my paper. By working on this technique throughout the course, I have been able to make my paper flow more smoothly at a steady pace. Additionally, I have taken the time in each of my papers to explain my quote, so that when I move on to the next quote or next paragraph the transition is seamless.

Overall, my writing has greatly improved throughout the course and has allowed me to establish my own academic voice. After completing this course and following the recursive process to a T, I have grown more confident as a writer to integrate my own thoughts into my writing and explain my position on a topic effectively.
